Shameless Plug

Faithful readers, it is that time of year.  Autumn?  Hot chocolate and spiced latte time?  Light the fire time?  Fall colors and cooler weather time?  Nope.  Nope.  Nope.  And nope.  It’s POPCORN time!

Today's post is brought to you by the letter P.

Today’s post is brought to you by the letter P.

Here are the top 10 reasons why you need to buy popcorn from my son.  (Even if you have no intention of buying anything, at least read on.  I promise you will learn something new about popcorn.)

  1. You will support local cub scouts and their mission to train young boys in character development, being a responsible citizen, and maintaining personal fitness.
  2. If you don’t want popcorn, you can still support the scouts by making a donation to our military and veteran’s organizations.  Donations are used to send popcorn treats to our service men and women and their families.  It’s also a very patriotic tax deduction.
  3. One serving of popcorn contains more polyphenols—antioxidants that prevent damage to cells—than most fruits and vegetables. Polyphenols may also have disease-fighting properties.
  4. Need help staying regular?  Popcorn is really high in fiber.  Even if you don’t need help with your internal plumbing, popcorn is still really high in fiber.
  5. It’s freaking delicious!  Seriously!  Have you ever had popcorn covered in caramel then dipped in chocolate?  Life will be that much closer to perfection after you eat some.
  6. Being a seed, it is the only snack that is 100% whole grain.  (It is not a vegetable.)
  7. Popcorn is naturally low in calories, has no sodium, zero sugar, and is fat free.  Naturally is the key word.  But really, who eats plain popcorn?  Popcorn covered in chocolate and caramel offers so much more joy to your life.
  8. Don’t be caught unprepared!  National Popcorn Day is January 13, 2013!  And yes, my use of exclamation points indicates that if we were face-to-face, I’d be shouting this at you!!!!!
  9. Amazing new flavors include sour cream and cheese corn and white chocolatey caramel crunch.  Are your taste buds dancing in delight yet?
  10. There will come a day when your sweet little one comes home with a fundraiser form selling (circle all that apply):  fruit, poinsettias, chocolates, coffee, City Saver cards, Enjoy the City books, candy bars, magazines, cookie dough, wrapping paper, Hanukah cards, frozen pizza, recyclable tote bags, and the presidential Chia pet collection.  You will then understand the awkwardness that comes as you beg your friends to buy something.  Anything!  You will be eternally grateful to your friends who buy an item, even if it’s the cheapest thing on the list.  I can promise you, I will be such a friend.  (I might even spring for the second cheapest thing on the list.)

If you are now feeling hungry or I have shamed you into purchasing something, here are the offerings.  (For out of town orders, we will ship them to you free of charge!)

  1. Military donations can be made at the $30 or $50 level.  If you can only afford to give $10, we’ll take that too.  Remember, all donations–no matter the amount–are tax deductible, and you will receive a receipt.  Multiple donations are gratefully accepted.
  2. Chocolate Lover’s Collection:  1 bag each of white chocolatey pretzels, milk chocolatey pretzels, white chocolatey caramel crunch, and milk chocolatey caramel crunch ($55)
  3. Sweet & Savory Collection:  1 bag each of butter toffee caramel corn, milk chocolatey pretzels, sour cream and cheese corn ($40)
